From Paper to Pixel

Karl started out his childhood in coastal central California and finished it off in Las Vegas. Following his interest in architecture he first studied at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; and then at the University of Idaho at Moscow. But he decided to leave his studies to build a career in graphic design; living and working in Los Angeles, then New York, and finally in Washington, DC, he racked up fifteen years working professionally in print media.

Karl eventually succumbed to the call for a more complete education in art and the promise of training in the computer mediums that had developed over the last decade. He relocated to San Francisco’s artist-laden SOMA neighborhood to continue his education in the Graphic Design New Media program at the California College of the Arts (formerly know as California College of Arts and Crafts) in the fall of 1999. Besides managing the challenges of art school, Karl trained in the world-class design firm of Michael Osborne Design. Additionally, he taught page layout software at the University of California at Berkeley Extension.
